Read the Room

Speak up about what they read

When a visitor stays on part of a page, the chat offers help about exactly that part: a small bubble, written by AI from your page's own words, checked before it goes live. You switch it on; it learns your site by itself.

What visitors see

Someone lingers on your pricing table. After about 5 seconds a small bubble rises from your chat button, the way a message would:

  • your logo or initial, with replying to (or welcome back for someone who has been before),
  • the section they're on, quoted, like the message being answered: Every plan, side by side.
  • a short line typed out: Torn between Growth and Business? Tell me your team size and I'll point you to one.

Tapping it opens the chat with that line already in the thread, under the section it's about, so the visitor only has to reply.

Switch it on

  1. Open Workspace, then Read the Room

In your dashboard, go to Workspace and pick Read the Room. Only workspace owners see this tab.

  2. Turn on the switch

If auto-open is on in The widget, you'll be asked first: the two take turns, because an open chat hides every bubble. Read the Room switches auto-open off; switching auto-open back on turns Read the Room off.

  3. Pick a voice

Casual, Professional, Playful, Witty, or Like my site (it borrows the tone of the page it's on). Changing it rewrites the AI lines; lines you wrote yourself stay.

  4. Read your site

Under Your site, check your website's address and press Read my site now (it also starts by itself when you switch on, or with your first visitor). Initio reads your pages, splits them into sections and writes lines for every one; you'll see each page appear as it's done, usually within a few minutes.

How it learns your pages

When you switch it on, Initio reads your site the way a visitor's browser would: the pages in your sitemap and the ones your home page links to (up to 60, the most important first), split into sections (a band with a heading, or the part under each heading). It skips checkout, cart, account and login pages and anything under Pages to leave alone. AI then writes lines for every section in one go, lines for first-time visitors, for people who come back, for people comparing options and for people who hesitate, and every line is checked before it goes live. After that, nothing is written again unless your page changes, so there's no AI cost per visitor.

Tip: set your site under Workspace → The widget → Allowed domains too. Nobody else can then run your widget on another site.

Building your own site? Tag a part of the page by hand with data-initio-section="pricing" on its element, or keep something out with data-initio-ignore.

When your site changes

  • You edit a section's text: the first visitor to read it after the change tells Initio, its old lines stop showing at once, and new lines are written for the new text.
  • Small moving parts like a price that changes with a toggle, a counter or a slider don't count as a change; the lines stay.
  • You rename, add or remove a section: it's picked up by the next visitor or the weekly re-read; removed sections are dropped (unless you wrote lines for them yourself).
  • Big redesign? Press Read my site now and everything is re-read straight away.
  • Lines you wrote or edited yourself are never replaced.

When it speaks up, and when it doesn't

  • After about 5 seconds on a section, or sooner if they scroll back to it or copy from it.
  • Every section can speak once a visit, up to 6 bubbles, one at a time; when they move on to another section, the bubble moves with them.
  • Never while they're typing in a form, scrolling fast, or already chatting with you.
  • Never again that visit once they close a bubble; twice closed and it stays quiet for a week.
  • Never on checkout, cart, account, login or password pages, on pages with a visible password field, or on paths you add under Pages to leave alone.
  • Never for search engines, crawlers or automated browsers.

Edit, add or switch off lines

The Read the Room tab lists every page and section it has learned, with each line and the last 7 days: how many read it, how long, how many were nudged and how many replied.

  • Edit a line to make it yours. AI never replaces lines you've edited.
  • Write my own adds a line, for everyone or only for people who come back.
  • Switch off a line, or a whole section with its switch.
  • New AI lines rewrites a section's lines now.
  • Forget drops a section; it comes back only if people read it again.

Every AI line is checked before it goes live: every price and number must be on your page, no links, emails, phone numbers or emoji, no claims your page doesn't make, and it never says it's watching the visitor. Lines that fail are held back and shown greyed out, with the reason.

What your team sees

A chat that starts from a bubble says so: Replied to a nudge on Every plan, side by side sits above the first message, and the visitor panel shows the section and the line they answered. The Radar shows what each visitor read most, so you can open with the right thing even without a nudge.

Tap a question. I'll answer right here.

What is Read the Room?
A feature that notices which part of a page a visitor is reading and, after about 5 seconds, offers help about exactly that part in a small chat bubble. The lines are written by AI from your own page text and checked before they go live.
How long until Read the Room starts working?
A few minutes. When you switch it on, Initio reads your site's pages and writes lines for every section; the tab fills in page by page. You can start it any time with Read my site now under Your site.
What happens when I change my website?
Edited sections get new lines the first time a visitor reads them after the change, and their old lines stop showing straight away. Renamed, new and removed sections are picked up by the next visitor or the weekly re-read. Lines you wrote yourself are never replaced.
Why did auto-open switch off?
An open chat hides every bubble, so the two take turns. Turning Read the Room on switches auto-open off; turning auto-open back on in The widget switches Read the Room off. You're asked before either happens.
Can it make things up or quote wrong prices?
Lines are written only from the section's own text, and every line is checked: any price or number must appear in that section, and claims like discounts or free plans must be on the page. Lines that fail never go live.
Does it track or record my visitors?
It reads section headings and a short excerpt of public page text, plus how long a section was on screen. It never reads form fields or keystrokes, skips private pages, removes emails and phone numbers, and stores page text only once it's confirmed on your live site.
Which plan includes Read the Room?
Growth and above.
